Interview with Liamon Ncube

Q:what is your dream for Zwelethemba and De doorns?
A:my dream is to meet the children at their point of need. They live
in shacks right now so I would like for us to build them more than
this. It is now illegal where they are staying and thats why they all
live in shacks because if the government comes to kick them out they
will not have a house to leave behind there is a lack of accommodation
and that is why they are living here. So part of my goal is to build
them houses that are moveable in case the Government comes and syas
they need to leave. The main thing is they need a place to stay and
food and then after they have this we can teach them skills so they can
sustain a good community. My main vision overall is to focus on orphans
here in South Africa right now and then eventually open an orphanage in
Zimbabwe. In Zimbabwe they have such a high percentage of orphans with
parents dying because of diseases. I want to help these
under-privledged children and then go out into the rest of Africa as
well.
Q:when did you realize you wanted to get involved with children's
ministry's?
A: In Zimbabwe I had a program called scouts in my church. I started
this group because i wanted the children to feel like they could be
part of the church. The children 12 and under were both privileged and
underprivileged but those that were underprivileged were getting little
help from the church such as food, shelter etc. I wanted these children
to see themselves as just as important as the rest of the congregation.
Then i decided to come to Ywam in 1997 and on my outreach in Zimbabwe i
saw the REAL underprivileged and my heart was touched by the sight of
all these children not knowing where their next meal would come from
and if it didn't rain they would have no water. My question now is what
are they eating? If it isn't me who helps them than who? They've heard
the gospel over and over but food on the table and education is also
important as well as bringing them the gospel. I always am thinking of
these children and asking are we really meeting these orphans needs? ON
my outreach we preached and preached but the children were still hungry
if we can suit their needs then THAT is spreading the gospel.
Q:what made you choose these two neighborhoods to start off your
outreach for your children in need project?
A: I was here (Worcester) doing my IPHC (introduction to primary health
care) school in 2004 and as a student I was invited to go there one
Wednesday and there was already some outreach going on there but i took
it over when i saw these children. I have now been going to these
neighborhoods for 3 years and still i have not been able to meet their
needs. If i can even bless one family it will be a very big thing to
God. I am not satisfied with the progress there so i created the
children in need dts because i think if we have this one specific focus
we can as a team fulfill the focus. We are doing something for those
children that we do not know but will remember us and the word forever.
Q:in what ways and with what tools do you plan on using to build this
ministry?
A: Just creating a documentary of what is really happening there and
sharing it with those at the YWAM base in Worcester and others so they
can see these children and be encouraged to give financial support so
we can build them shelter and supply food. I am also relying on
volunteers to come and join future Children In Need DTS sessions.
Q: any last remarks you want to make?
A:(Placky-Laimon's wife) In South Africa there are places where many
have died because of HIV/AIDS and the children are left with no-one.
They need security,a place to sleep, food, school just the basic needs
of life. I would really like to see changes happen there. The
Government is failing to do anything about it and so we need to do
something. The focus DTS gives some the opportunity to satisfy the many
needs the children have, some are being abused, some are being used and
some are just completely abandoned. It gives an opportunity basically
to those that have a heart for children. There are families all over
the world that need love and for their needs to be met and to simply be
shown the love of christ.
